This will not end well

I went to RCIA.  I knew Father Colonel H was quite right-wing, and at the end of the session he pulled out the evols of HR 3200, the House health care bill.

Now, I am opposed to this bill because even though I have no problem in principle with socialized medicine--it's my preferred way of doing health care--the United States really doesn't have the national personality for it, nor can the United States afford it right now with the unimaginable deficit we have.  However, Fr COL H was talking in all sincerity about how the government will mandate euthanasia and send people to the homes of pregnant women to tell them how to raise their children, including that they have to teach them about gays.

1233 and 1904 are the relevant sections.  If you haven't read them, you can go ahead and do so.  They don't say anything remotely like this.

The guy beside me actually murmured that Obama was the Antichrist.  I gave him a "are you fucking retarded?" look.  The woman to my right gasped out loud whenever Fr H made another proclamation about the bill.

I flat out said I didn't believe it and he told me to go read, so I did.  Next week I get to call BS.  Yep, that's me, making friends wherever I go.

Oy vey, Maria. You've got way more restraint than I do.

I read both. One is that a doc will get paid for giving you advice about hospice, palliative care, health care directives and proxies. That's it. Right now docs don't get paid to do this, and it still won't be mandatory.

The home visits are not mandatory (budgets would constrain them from being so anyway) and they are aimed at preventing child abuse and spotting developmental problems. Again, that's it.

...it sounds like that if this guy had a brain he would take it out and play with it.

What a wonderful turn of phrase! I'm still giggling.

Yes. YES. I feel the same way about EWTN and Catholic radio.

Yeah, that's not really RCIA material, unless the Pope somehow weighed in on this. (Not being flippant, I haven't been following the goings on of the Catholic Church lately.)

I would think that especially on an Army base this would be inappropriate.

Are you a catechumen/candidate, or catechist?

I don't see HR 3200 as equivalent to socialized medicine, more like an expansion of Medicaid to make it available to more of the people who can't get or afford private insurance.

Here, by the way, is the USCCB's official position on health care reform.

I wish I could be there when you get to call bullshit, and I look forward to hearing about it next week! -- although I am wary (weary!), and don't really expect lunatics to recognize bullshit even when it's clearly spelled out to them. At any rate, I'd do as much homework as possible beforehand, to be able to refute whatever crapola he's read on the lunatic blog fringe.

Maybe we should start a pool ... how many weeks before Teppy says "On what planet do you spend most of your time?" to Fr. Col. H?

Hooooo boy. I'm opposed to the health care bill only because there's been so much paranoia and misrepresentation of facts going on that who knows what's true and what's false.

And yes, slippery slope is VERY slippery, and absolutely no good is likely going to come out of this.

Oh, man. That's worse than what I heard two Sundays ago. A conservative Franciscan friar prayed during Mass for the healthcare bill to be defeated because it funded abortion and euthanasia.
