Oh, my (insert deity here). The "Internet Cafe" here in Camp Sabalu-Harrison is open which means I can get onto LJ more than once a month or so. I don't know if it'll be daily, so my Gmail mailing list is going to remain operational until I get back to the Excited States.

Lots has been happening, for those who haven't been reading. My remote camp just opened a proper laundry drop-off/pick-up spot today, so hopefully it'll be easier to have clean clothes. They opened the Pod City, called the RLBs, but in true Army fashion they are cramming 3 to a pod that was smaller than the ones in Arifjan, plus they have no wall lockers. Long live my corner of the tent! It's not so bad; I've been rat-free since December.

Rune study continues. Now all we need is a pagan group out here, or one that doesn't start during my work hours on mainside.

New chapel is built. All we need now to have an actual village is a PX, but drugstore.com will do the trick for now.

One thing does make me sad...looks like I'll have to reactivate Facebook. My eternal americanstd just started one, my family is on it, etc. Plus Afghan Pirate Radio doesn't have a MySpace, and I definitely want to keep up with those Wascally Wabbits, a bunch of anonymous contractors who run their foulmouthed punk station out of a roving van on Bagram.

I have to say I haven't been enjoying my life here, but that's because of Army stupidity. On the other hand, I quite like Afghanistan and the Afghans. I wouldn't mind coming back if I had employers who weren't bound and determined to kill me through overwork. (Stops to hack up bronchitis goo.) See?

Still not sure if I'll be back in June or July, but at the moment, my morale is most definitely up. I'd say the only thing that would improve it is hot waffles in our local DFAC but it's for the best we don't have them. I've hit my goal weight, and hot waffles would be contrary to that.

Think when the Frood and I finally shack up, we're going to have to invest in a waffle iron.

Edit: does said punk radio station broadcast online or are they strictly analog?

Glad to hear they're improving things for you.

I've been sucked into FB too, the posts there finally reached critical mass and I didn't want to miss them.

I'm fond of Facebook, but do remember they play fast and loose with privacy -- their default is you want to share with everyone, which I definitely do not, so I've set my privacy levels accordingly.

Glad to hear things are better.

Hey - I recently got into FB as well - maybe I'll see you there. meanwhile, it's good that you're getting more online time and seem to be in a happier place

I'm glad camp life is getting better for you -- was definitely moving in the grimward direction for far too long.

If you still need socks, etc., please send me an address and list of wants and I'll pack some up and send them.

re: Facebook -- there has been -some- improvement in privacy controls... let me know if you would like help navigating them.

It is! Unfortunately I can't pick it up in my tent. I'm hoping they broadcast over internet because I will gladly listen to them once I get home.
