New shoes

This morning I got up and tried my Lady Isaac shoes from Newton Running. I deliberately did not take my iPod with me because I wanted to concentrate on my stride and what I was doing with it.

I knew it wouldn't be comfortable, and Newton makes no bones about the fact that it takes months to completely get used to these. Within about a quarter mile my hip flexors ached like I was having the worst cramps ever. I felt the strain in my glutes and the muscles on the backs of my thighs too. Since these are the muscles you're supposed to use to run, the shoes are obviously working.

My knee, however, doesn't hurt and this was the goal. However I was quickly reminded of another health problem I'd forgotten--asthma. I wheezed within a block and had to go back for my inhaler. Bother.

Mei-Mei is used to me again. When I came home I was a little worried because my precious chan-chan was scowling and not being herself. I'm wondering now if it was depression, because when we got up today she was smiling and happy to climb about and look out windows. I'm going to have Steve do a glucose test in the next day or so to see if having her family reunited lowered her stress and consequently her blood sugar.

Which iPod do you have? I have the touch and it works perfectly with my stereo bluetooth headset. Unplugged, FTW!

Yay for running without pain! I hadn't heard of those Newton Running shoes before. I might have to check out a pair of those.
