The Vatican puts ordaining a woman and being a pedophile in the same sin box:

The comments are great; reminds me of lots of people I know.

I don't know if I can do this anymore. I'm glad I submit myself to the teaching authority of Pope Happycat because he is full of win and awesome.

I can't do this anymore. After almost forty-two years, I'm reluctantly leaving, and swimming the Tiber to the Anglicans (officially in November, when I'll be received by the local bishop). They are indeed having their own serious issues, but they seem to be weathering it more or less, and in any case seem willing to listen.

I've found a progressive Anglo-Catholic parish full of similar souls, and the priest there is awesome. You'd like her, I think.

*sigh* I love the Anglicans.

To Teppy: what the fucking fuck? That's why the Church is paying all those claims for people hurt by women attempting to be ordained. Oh, wait.

OMG, the comments.

"Younger Catholic women are much more orthodox than their elders. They chose to be homemakers rather than business women, and natural family planning over contraception, etc.."

I mean, you don't believe in God in any way recognizable by Catholicism either, do you?

No, nor any Christian way really. Maybe the liberal Quakers would accept me. Obviously I have some more spiritual searching to do.

But really, to say that ordaining a woman, usually done in the interest of religious justice, is on the same level as sexually abusing a child? I just--there are no words.

But that isn't actually the claim, it's just a straw man of it. The legal regulation of the church is different from moral commands - it is an abuse of episcopal office to ordain someone in defiance of the Vatican's regulation of the priesthood (the fact that the regulations are dumb aside). It is also an abuse of ministerial office to hurt a child. They aren't morally equivalent at all, just in the same legal category. The way you said it would be like saying tax fraud and murder are morally equivalent in America because they are both felonies, when I don't think anyone in the US would even try to make that claim.
