I need to read the whole thing, and when I do I should brief it. In the mean time, if you're interested in this case you should at least read the analysis since everybody with access to the news knows the holding.

Happy birthday, Teppy!

Thanks for the link. I didn't think I'd be interested in reading through much of it but actually it's an easy read and I am interested.

My brother and his husband called USAA to tell them they are married now (married in Massachusetts), and USAA told them "Maryland doesn't do that". So they called Maryland's ... insurance commission? human rights? I don't remember, but some state gov't agency, and were told "we'll take care of it!" And they did! USAA called back right away and registered them as married. Although they said they didn't have any way to register them as married to each other, it still lowered their insurance premiums.

:D

I didn't think Maryland was honoring marriages performed elsewhere. That's pretty cool.

Yeah, it was kind of under the radar -- the state attorney general was asked to give his (official) opinion on the question, and he said he thought Maryland would have to recognize them. No legislative action, no referendum, no court case. Just a legal opinion, and voilà!
