Writer's Block: Something to cry about

How do you feel about corporeal punishment?

1. Snarky answer: It should be administered heavily to those who don't know the difference between "corporal" and "corporeal".

2. Semi-snarky: Oh, wouldst that only the corporeal be punished and not the spiritual!

3. Useful only rarely on children (don't run into the street!) but otherwise a sign of failure. Great if you want a child to have the soul of a whipped cur and not a human being.

I saw that and questioned myself, presuming I had the wrong spelling. Thank you!

But but but -- not whacking kids requires parenting! And that's hard! =((((

Being a product of a parenting style using large doses of corporal punishment, I'm not sure how to respond. I can say that it does seem counter-intuitive to treat children with assault to demonstrate how badly they have behaved.

Worked great when I was at school. One of the few ways to keep adolescent boys in line is a one-inch-thick leather strap named Hermann Flogswell, wielded by my form teacher Bazza Gray.

Maybe it was just a case of Stockholm Syndrome but every kid I knew thought of Bazza as their favourite teacher.
