Ugh

I've been dragging myself through this depression for a week now. Normally I'd self-medicate with alcohol, but I'm trying to shed the weight gained last summer when I spent two months solid eating. Still, this shit has got to end.

Sitting here self-medicating with scotch ... I'm so sorry you're depressed. You've said you're going through menopause (sorry if this is probing, but I've had such horrendous PMS it just occurs to me to wonder) -- do you think the hormonal changes are affecting your moods? Or is it more the post-Afghanistan blues still?

Anyway, I'll pray for you, and maybe that will help to get my mind out of my own b.s. I hope you lighten up soon.

I was hoping it was hormone change affecting my moods, but the depression seems to be independent of it. I'm also not sure if this is related to Afghanistan at all. I will say that the weather here has been cockamamie, and I'm prone to weather-related mood swings.

Oh yeah, me too. Especially if it's very overcast, I know I find it hard to muster much energy at all.

Then you lost out on that condo, too, so there is at least some real life to contribute to it. At least it seems like a pretty big deal.

Anyway, I hope you'll feel better tomorrow. A week sucks but probably isn't fatal yet, or self-perpetuating. For me, being depressed for more than a couple of weeks or so can really push me down into a more serious depression, that takes on a life of its own independent of any outside conditions. Hopefully you're not there, or not as prone to getting there as I am.

The weather's been kind of screwing with me, too.

Do you get an endorphin high from capsaicin? It might be time to break out the hot sauce; that can help lift mood. Laughter yoga, really hot and/or cold showers, and dancing to loud music might also help.

I worked out today. Running or working out normally gets my endorphins going but alas, they wore out of my bloodstream hours ago. Hot sauce has never induced euphoria in me; wrong genes for it.
