Dead Until Dark

This is the first of the Sookie Stackhouse "Southern Vampire" series. Steve and I are simultaneously watching the first season of the series; we're up to episode 7. Not a lot to say; this is the proverbial beach book. I hear that the series doesn't go downhill into self-indulgent porn the way Anita Blake does, and that both it and the series can and should be enjoyed separately. A fun read and I'll be continuing with them.

Yes to both. The series avoids the Anita Blake porn-fest; and the book and TV series are quite different. They're similar enough that I enjoy both immensely - I do feel like the TV series stays true enough to the intent and the characters; but they're different enough that despite having read all the books more than once, I'm never quite sure what's going to happen next on TV.

Win/win.

I met her at the 2006 WorldCon and got some books signed, and we talked about the fact that she specifically wanted to avoid the LKH self-insert pornathon route, which I thanked her for. :D I looooved little details like Bill meeting with the Daughters of the Confederacy.
