Best day ever

So, I'm now taking Friday off so I can do do "house things" like the grocery shopping, dry cleaning run, etc. I didn't have much of that yesterday, so after going to the gym I headed down to University Ave. to enjoy being in North Park.

As I've said before, I'm not keen on San Diego as a whole, but I think the whole Normal Heights/North Park/South Park area is the coolest neighbourhood I've ever lived in. On the way down the street I stopped at...I can't remember what the place is called, I think it's Record Trader? It's a thrift stop specializing in media and clothes. They're having an outside sale including shelves and shelves and shelves of CDs, all for $1 each and the sale will be happening every Friday-Sunday, weather permitting. I only had $3 in cash on me, so I walked away with a New Order remix and two samplers, one punk and one death metal.

From there I got some money and walked into Controversial Bookstore, which is a really old New Age/mystical shop. I already have way too many books to begin with and can't justify more until I've read what I've got. They had Tibetan silk banners, but I didn't think Steve would be all that delighted with them (the word "hippie" would be used in conversation). I did manage to get something for Don McKillican for his Christmas present, though.

The Rescue Mission thrift store didn't have anything I really need or want so I went to Clair de Lune for a coffee and chocolate chip cookie.

Since it was Veterans Day (Remembrance Day), we went to Hooters since I could get ten wings for free. The place was insanely packed, including at least a dozen National Guards in ACUs. I looked at them and their bare right sleeves. They were all E-4s, and I reflected that it's likely those never-been-deployed soldiers are going to become more and more numerous. In turn, I'm going to be the Grizzled Old Veteran, and that's very weird for me to contemplate.

I toasted absent comrades with Michelob Ultra and my wings tasted like freedom or victory, wasn't sure which.
