Communists and Georgians and Vixens, oh my

On Thursday, we were joined by the lovely and talented desert_vixen, who is taking some leave time in between duty assignments. She arrived in the company of five-year-old Mini Vixen (MV) and PB. DV and PB both have taken Russian for the Army and are Russophiles, so we all headed over to Pomegranate on El Cajon for some Russian and Georgian food.

While Steve and PB got acquainted, MV joyously addressed me as "Teppy" and was excited about the copy of d'Aulaires' "The Greek Myths" I had bought for her. I figure she's at the right age to start knowing about mythology. The cats were a little weirded out by the presence of a Little Person although they weren't retiring about it. Ivan of course hit on DV as he is wont to do.

We had shashlik and some kind of chicken in yogurt sauce we won't order again, and Georgian meatloaf and veggie dumplings. Also the salad platter we always order. MV was bemused by the food but knew she was getting McDonald's later. The guys hit it off and for me and DV it was just great to see each other again. Last time we had done so was in Kuwait.

Anne and I just discovered Pomegranate last weekend. Some good stuff there! No Georgians, though, surprisingly enough.

yay! d'Aulaires! I was given a copy when I was about 9 and I was totally obsessed with greek mythology for several years.

It's a wonderful book, and I remembered the illustrations for years. I definitely had to hand it on to a new generation.
