Flores para la Virgencita

Today is the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe. I was very sad that I didn't have any events to attend in her honour. Last year there was a great Mass at Founder's Chapel at USD, complete with mariachis and a couple dressed as the Lady and Juan Diego.

Today I can only bring a few photos:

First here's me with a miniature reproduction of the image. Taken by some Polish tourists:

One of my favourite pictures. This was the chapel in the workers' break room in the Mexico City subway system (Pino Suarez station):

And the Image itself:

I love that image. It's so beautiful, especially close-ups of her face.

Ah, pretty! One day, I'd love to see the Tilma in person.

I need to see the original someday. Especially if I ever finish the dissertation.

The break room picture is truly wonderful.

I love it because the workers were SO PROUD of it. I saw it by chance on the night of December 11, on my way to the basilica. The shrine is a permanent thing though, not something put up for the holiday. I went to take a photo of it, and a couple of the employees stopped me because they wanted to move some coatracks and other things to show the room off to best effect.

I like the second photo with all the red flowers.

BTW, I've been searching on eBay, Amazon, google and other search engines plus checking with a religious supply dealer I know who looked in catalogs for a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows such as in the photo below.

I've struck out and been redirected to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima and La Pieta. Do you have any thoughts on where I can find a statue like this:

Egad! That's truly magnificent, but I bet it's one of a kind. You could try googling "mater dolorosa" and its related image, the Seven Sorrows.

Tomorrow I'll try what you suggest.
Here is another image you may like although it's not as colorful:

I'm getting results using the search terms "Mother of Sorrows". Nothing approaching this one, but I think it's called Catholic Discount Store has one of the Seven Sorrows that I like very much.

Please tell me if you think this looks too gaudy -- like a painted China doll.

That's very odd. She looks almost Asian, despite the blondness. I'm not into blond Marys but the red gown is...compelling.

I found this one:

And I LOVE this one:

Quite honestly I like the first one the best but they are not taking orders until January ... that's okay, I can wait. I'm bookmarking the link.

I've seen the second one on eBay once and passed on it as the shape of that black dress looks like a cone turned upside down and snipped off not to mention the black doesn't appeal.

Thanks for finding a link to one about as close as I'm going to come to Mary with a sword in her heart.

I'm off to bed ... goodnight :)
