Family Law day

Wasn't bad, considering I got four and a half hours of sleep, but I learned in BCT I only need four anyway in order to be functional.

Hoo boy were we busy though. I pulled in more billable hours today than in any other day I've worked there. I generated a solid half-inch of correspondence to be filed, and since I was so busy, my attorney actually volunteered to file it for me.

Home again, home again, and I've found an Alestorm song I'm going to post for prushrush.

My ACUs are out for tomorrow, but I had to dig to find a patrol cap since JAG usually has no use for them unless they're overseas. That meant finding some pin-on rank and a name tape for the back--whose idea WAS that anyway? I never got sew-on rank for my patrol cap since I refuse to accept I'll be an E-4 for long.

Name tape on back of head is useful to tell who someone is from behind and it helps when you drop your cap and someone else picks it up, because I know just having it written inside tends to fade with multiple washings and dirtying. Is it a pain in the ass? Yes, sometimes.

It's the velcro thing. Why not just have sew-on? It's not like we change our names that much, or if suddenly we're going to be in a different Army.

I guess they figure it's easier and plus we already use velcro name-tapes for our uniforms?

We still can't figure out why the name tapes have to be velcro'd on. Sure, women get married and change their names, but it's not like we plan on becoming another army all of a sudden. Removal of the "US Army" tag in order to hide the fact is a violation of law of war, even.

Well I know Special Forces often go around without any tapes and US Contractors replace the US Army tape with a contractor tape. One time on the road we ran into a bunch of Romanians and traded out all of our velcro tapes; flags and everything. A lot of the other counties have everything as velcro too.

Dp you will be an E5 soon? CONGRATULATIONS! At least that will mean a payraise, which btw, President Obama said he was enacting legislation to increase military pay. You all deserve it!

In the Navy we didn't have our names on our dress hats or our blue garrison caps; just the brass anchor and chain. Velcro was not the thing back then. Everything had to be sewn down. UGH.

Thanks, but congratulations are premature. I've only turned in my packet, it hasn't been reviewed by my company or been sent to the board yet.

I've changed Regional Commands three times in four years, so the velcro has been handy for the unit patches, but I think the names and US ARMY should be sewn on. Even people who have been in for years can reverse their Army tape and name tape when they're sleepy enough.
