I want to get a rubber pig nose that you tie on and walk around wearing it.

In honour of the swine flu, of course, the biggest piece of media-driven hysteria I've seen in a while.

Such a terrible pandemic...2 people have died in the U.S. from it. Oh noes.

(In contrast, 36,000 people in the U.S. die of boring old flu every year.)

Okay, perhaps I should have omitted the ????? Because I certainly agree that the overemphasis on this single issue does twist everything out of proportion. I knew that there are lots of deaths every year from just the plain, old flue, but didn't know the exact figure.

Actually, what I think would be hilarious (in a scathing social commentary way) would be to have a tee-shirt made with a pig on the front wearing a mask. Caption: You people make ME sick!

220 pigs in Alberta did get the flu from an employee who came back from vacation in Mexico.

I KNOW!!!!!!

I try to tell people that all the time. This shit is seriously ridiculous. I bet they didn't mention that the people who died from swine flu in the US came from Mexico to visit, did they?

One of them did, the toddler who died. The other was a U.S. resident who was pregnant, had pre-existing conditions and a compromised immune system. Everyone else who has contracted it (in the 300s at this point) has become "mildly ill and made a full recovery" according to the BBC. Swine flu is actually a better flu to contract than some of the normal strains because it reacts to Tamiflu whereas "normal" flus often don't.

I heard on NPR that about three regular anti-viral medications to treat the flu work for it.

Yup! I know all the Rapture-Ready types were hoping this was going to be the Pestilence that heralds the end of the world, and once again they are let down. Boo hoo hoo.

I believe that somewhere in the far off galaxy known as the trunk of my car, I may have one. I can't count on it, though, since it IS a vortex.

Re: +1
I'd love you forever, not that I was planning on doing anything else. I've had other offers, but the closest is from Ilinois.

Apparently, the LJ community finds it parody-worthy, considering everyone is putting masks on their icons.

I double-dog-dare you.

I agree about the media. I knew they would flip out over it when I first heard about it.
