Tonight's dinner

Monday I was at Vons and found a huge tuna steak for under $5.  I'd have been mad not to have bought it.  americanstd 's reaction was just "WOW!" when I showed it to him today.  No kidding, this was the size of a porterhouse.

Today it met its destiny on our charcoal grill over a pile of glowing mesquite.  Some ears of corn followed.  americanstd seared both sides of the tuna and we served it up with a bowl of soy sauce with wasabi for dipping.  americanstd was seeing God.

I know I live amidst meat and market snobs, but Vons has some astonishingly good deals on meat and fish at times.  I try to make regular rotations there to check it out.

I'd have taken a picture of our fish--but we eated it.

It was indeed! I was inspired to do a review of Crazy Vons on Yelp because of it. Oh my stars, that tuna was SO good.

I love Vons. It is my grocery shopping place of choice.

Wow, that sounds soooo good too!!! I'm getting hungry.

Given a decent and regular income bracket I'd favour Gay Ralphs in Hillcrest or Nicknameless Ralphs on Friar's Road. But I don't. We buy our meat normally at the commissary, and you've tasted for yourself that it's pretty good. Vons often is a strikeout, but when we do get a hit, it knocks it out of the park.

For me it's just location. Vons is 2 minutes from my house and I've always been pleased with their food and selection.
