Blue Falconry

Okay. So there is one mail officer for our unit (TSGT M) and four mail clerks. I pick up the mail two times a week. Without turning this into an LSAT logic game, this means someone else also must pick up the mail two times a week, and that's TSGT M. Since SPC M (referred to in this story as Junior to avoid confusion) works nights, we knew it wasn't fair to make him pick up the mail on work days. So we put him on for Saturday, when he doesn't work.

He told me yesterday that he sees a problem because Saturday is Sergeant's Time.

I reminded him that Sergeant's Time is at 1400 whereas he normally picks up the mail at 1300, and our office is on the way to the building where it is held.

Please note that we are not in the ARCENT chain of command and our commanders have made it clear that Sergeant's Time is not mandatory because it would mean the Navy and Air Force enlisted would have to go too. Junior goes for reasons we don't really understand.

So in other words, he wants to forgo a fairly simple duty TO OUR UNIT because he's afraid he might be late (unlikely) to something he does voluntarily for his own purposes.

How about....NO?

I expressed my displeasure and spoke to TSGT about it. TSGT says he'll deal with it; he's NCOIC after all.

Someday I'm going to smack that brat across the face, Article 15 or not.

Just tell them you were channeling the spirit of the Man. You're on Third Army territory, after all.... :)

HOW can you not want to pick up mail? That's one of the best duties ever.

Furthermore, he's gone from having mail duties two days a week to only one. Junior feels that it's imperative to suck up to the ARCENT JAG paralegal NCOs for the sake of his career, which makes us EXTRA pissed off.

I mean sheesh, don't let us interrupt your ass-kissing time outside the unit with duties to be performed for the unit.

And indeed, if any dead general would allow himself to be channeled The Man would be it.

I had someone try to pull the same shit on me when I was the mail clerk in Kosovo. Thankfully a talk with the Commander straightened things out.
