Not happy today

1.  I realize how much I don't want to be in the Army anymore.  If I leave the Army though, what will we do for health insurance?

2. I got my permanent-absentee ballot in today.  I filled in the balloons for the major government positions but the California ballot just makes my eyes cross.

3.  I received a ticket for $516 and I'm not sure what for.  They sent me a photo of me at a red light, making a right turn on red at an intersection that does not forbid right turn on red.  I clearly remember the light going off in my eyes and making me jump, and wondering why.  Still wonder why.  Obviously I'm going to fight this.

4.  Jury duty.  I hate jury duty and I get hit for it every single year.

All of which is just leading me once again to say I'm so, so tired of living here.

$516?! The FUCK?! They sound about as bullshit and arbitrary as the IL Tollway Authority.

The county of San Diego is broke. This is them trying to gouge for $$.
Oct. 13th, 2010 02:45 am (UTC)
It's still crap. :(

Like I said, I hate living here.

Are they saying you didn't come to a complete stop prior to turning?
Oct. 13th, 2010 12:53 am (UTC)
21453. (a) A driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a marked limit line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown, except as provided in subdivision (b).

(b) Except when a sign is in place prohibiting a turn, a driver, after stopping as required by subdivision (a), facing a steady circular red signal, may turn right, or turn left from a one-way street onto a one-way street. A driver making that turn shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to any vehicle that has approached or is approaching so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard to the driver, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to that vehicle until the driver can proceed with reasonable safety.

By the way, I had to look this up. The ticket just says I violated 21453A. The ticket was done by one of those cameras that go off with a flash in your eyes, which I'm sure didn't help, but it's all still photos and doesn't prove anything!

Does CA have a public option health insurance? MD does, if I leave the Abbey for school I'll be opting for it.
Oct. 13th, 2010 02:06 am (UTC)
Only for kids. And believe me, you're better off in Maryland. The taxes in this place are insane, but I think moving would cost more. Not to mention that I don't know where in the US I would move to--all the states seem to suck, some more than others.
Oct. 13th, 2010 02:09 am (UTC)
Oh. Well, I guess I only qualify for MD's because I'm crazy and therefore uninsurable in the private market. But yes, it's a good place to live, relatively speaking.

I've only ever been called up for jury duty 2x, once in DC and once in MD. Wasn't chosen either time.

The ticket is insane. What a scam!
Oct. 13th, 2010 02:10 am (UTC)
...on that thought -- any possibility it's actually a scam? It just sounds like such a ridiculous sum of money for a camera ticket for allegedly running a red light!
Oct. 13th, 2010 02:18 am (UTC)
Oh, I'm sure it's a scam. And it's a failure to stop before a right turn on red, not even running a red light through an intersection.

But it's a scam run by the county.

Hmph. Sounds like a "throw-the-bums-out" section of the ballot that would have been worth filling in, if any of them were up.

I have actually really enjoyed the time that I've spent in Vermont. New Hampshire was nice too. Plus, you'd be a LOT closer to us!

Chapel Hill experimented with red-light cameras for a few months, and got so many complaints they got rid of them. I'm sorry about the ticket, and wish you luck in the fight.

Also sending good wishes in general.

That's good because experience shows that the government starts to see the camera-tickets as a cash cow and start making it harder and harder for drivers not to be in violation. It makes intersections less safe o_0

Move somewhere that's not fucked?

At least I can get travel insurance when I come to visit... even that's twice as expensive as other places I've been to.
