SitRep on Kitteh

While we are approved for adopting wee Ivan, they said they wanted to run some more blood tests on him in hopes of finding out why he isn't growing. He's the same size he was when he was found.

Here he is.

My theory, given that he's energetic, strong (can jump four feet straight up) and a holy terror is that he's a runt. In other words, nothing is wrong with him; he's just a small cat.

The shelter is closed today, tomorrow my mom is in SoCal and Wednesday is a busy day at the law office. I'll call Wednesday to see what the vet says. If Ivan is good to go, we'll get him on Thursday afternoon.

We went through a stretch where the average weight of our cats was around 14 lbs which was weird to us. We've always had at least one "runt" in the house, and they were usually the more lovable feline terrorists. We have two that are tiny now and don't show any signs of getting any larger. We like this.

Awww, kitteh! Nilla saw the picture and says "meow."

Yeah, exactly. My parents have a cat that's like three years old and still "teenage" kitten sized. I just assumed that was natural with some cats.

It's movement blur. He seems perfect, just little.

What a cute little guy!

Even runts don't always stay small, though. One of the cats I had growing up was the runt of his litter, and he ended up being a pretty big guy who never really had any problems.

I've heard that about runts. He may go through a growth spurt or he may not. Either way is "normal" for them.

A definitely sleek cutie! I'm also wondering if the less-plush contours could be from mixing breeds (or is he definitely a purebred?).

Oh, I just want to rub my face along his.

Not angry at you; you'll join me in my anger in a second.

They don't know anything about his pedigree/breed/background. He was found in a garbage can, you see.

Anyone who throws a kitty in the garbage can should be thrown alive into a trash compactor.

It's as if Wrigley and Smoke had a love child! He's got Wrigley's face and ears with Smoke's colouring!

This isn't to say that the shelter is Bad or anything negative, but it may be environment-related. When I adopted smokeinator from our shelter, he was very small for his age as well; he actually had a major growth spurt about three/four months after he was adopted.

He's not an asshole, but he's definitely something out of a Warner Bros cartoon.

how cute! Ivan's tiny but maybe that's just him being a kitten?

He's been at the shelter for a couple of months and hasn't grown.

He is adorable - Hubby and I used to have 2 Siamese cats, one never got over 4 lbs and the other never got over 6 - and they both lived over 15 years without any real problems
