Boxing Day

We did the good Canadian thing and went shopping, with the bright blue sky above us and wearing t-shirts.

I hadn't seen the NEX at Pacific Fleet since well before I deployed, so we went there. Steve got a new wallet and we got a carpet sweeper for our living room rug. (I am overdue to take a photo of our living room as it is now, with a non-Ikea couch and a carpet.) After that we hit the commissary which while picked over was painless. I got a new broom made of eco-friendly materials and yes, two boxes of tea. The tea was a 2-pack for $2.90, Stash's White Christmas and Holiday Chai.

After that, Steve said he wanted a pair of real athletic shoes, so we headed up to Roadrunner Sports where he went through the Shoe Dog procedure (running on treadmill to observe stride, discussing joint difficulties, etc). Shoes were obtained. After that, we went home, dropped off groceries and headed for the gym at Miramar. Steve's new shoes force him to not run on the outside of his feet and this is hurting his hip. Skeletons are funny things.

Today I went back to Miramar for a little bit of working out, then home again. We're toilet-training Ivan and he's at the very first baby steps, where we take away his litter pan and give him the toilet seat with tray insert that we will eventually put on top of the toilet. Right now we're just getting him to use the seat on the floor with his clumping litter. Flushable litter is waiting in the wings for when we put it on top of the toilet.

As a Canadian, I approve of your continuing the Boxing Day tradition. OTOH, I don't recall whether I've ever gone ... and I'm thinking NOT because of the necessity of having a car, yadda, yadda, yadda for big ticket items. Well, that was when I was young. When I got way older, I said to myself that nothing was worth the madness.

Next cat learns to use the toilet. I've been saying that for years. I am soooo tired of cat litter.

He's happily using the training pan on the floor and has for two days. We've moved it on top of the toilet now. If he uses it on top of the toilet we're on our way.

I'm glad to hear it is going well. It's supposed to be easy to train kittens. It will pay for itself in litter you don't have to buy. The convenience is a bonus ;)
