Back from Sacto

I was in Sacramento for the weekend for a mock court martial event. It exceeded my expectations and I learned a lot. It wasn't boring, either. Turns out the brains behind it is my old boss COL K, so I need to send her an e-mail telling her "well done".

I didn't see any of the city. I stayed at the usual Best Western, because I get points for that. CPT C, who is Deputy Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) at my unit, went with me. I got us each a suite at the Best Western and he'd never stayed in one. It was larger than Steve's and my suite in San Antonio with a larger kitchen with a full-size fridge, but what I gained in the suite over our hotel in SA was lost on hotel. The free breakfast wasn't as nice and there was no free happy hour. I'll have to decide on what wins out next time we go to Texas.

The way home was weird, but in a nice way at least. I bought new boots in SA, at Ft. Sam Houston, and they have no steel in them. I went through security wearing them and they didn't set the metal detector off. My belt did, I took it off, and went through again. Nobody wanted to feel me up. The TSA guy on the other side shook my hand and thanked me for my service. I AM NO LONGER EMOTIONALLY PREPARED FOR THIS.

As my plane landed in San Diego, the stewardess announced that they had "two very special people" on board, which of course conjured up images of Timmy and Jimmy from "South Park" but of course she meant me and this one Coast Guard guy. She was going to let us off the plane first, which was fine, but it went straight over the top when she called me up as "little Army girl." Then she gave me a hug and hugged the Coast Guard kid too. I'm pleased, but embarrassed.

Home again, home again. We stopped at Saguaro's so Steve could get a carne asada burrito and I could get a chicken taco. Now I'm home with the Giants/Patriots game on, in my sweatpants.

That would be kinda weird, but can't argue with being first off a small, metal tube.

You in uniform going through the TSA bullshit? Wondering if that means why they're actually nice to you.

After all the stress involved about getting to this thing, I'm glad it all turned out well and didn't involve molestations.

Well ... at least both of you got hugged.
[And I'm making this mental picture in my head. Okay, okay, I shall cease and desist.]
