North Park Farmers Market

Right now, the NPFM is open from 1330 to 2000 every Thursday. I'd been to it waaaaay back when, before I deployed, and hadn't been back since. At the time it was an awful disappointment, because it was mostly way overpriced craft foods and candles and flowers, not anything you could have for dinner.

I had to go to the 31st and University intersection anyway, so I gave it a shot. I walked out with three kinds of hummus (sun dried tomato, cilantro/jalapeno, curry/turmeric) and an odd sauce made of almonds and chipotle. I intend to put that on fish. I also met a family who do organic meats and they GAVE me a 2 lb slab of pork ribs to see if it triggers allergies in Steve. Wild boar hasn't so far, and this is organically-fed, hormone-free pig. We shall see.

(Yes, Steve is allergic to pork, the second or third person I've known who is.)

They also make sausage in collagen cases once a month, so I gave Ashley (the totally punk daughter) my business card and I'll buy some when they have it.

I got two cucumbers. I sliced one up and Steve and I ate the slices instead of chips with the hummus.

We watched the movie "In Time" which was quite enjoyable, and now I'm off to read for a bit. Four day weekend starts tomorrow!

Wow, they gave you 2 pounds of swine? Wish they were closer--they'd get my business because of that.

I need to check out the farmer's market out here. I used to go to the one at the College of the Canyons every weekend when I was at CalArts. It was awesome.

Ashley had only met one other person who was allergic to meat, and it was beef. She made the experiment of giving her a slab of their beef and the woman did not get sick. So she is repeating the experiment with Steve. I am curious, because he, MAJ T and Kirk (who is the husband of Teresa on FB) plan to go hunting wild boar.

I've heard wild boar is quite tasty. Never had the opportunity to try it. My stepmother-in-law had some elk sausage that her cousin hunted that was quite good. It was a lot milder than I was expecting.

HUMMUS. DO WANT. I've only been recently introduced to that awesome nom of awesome, and if I can get it organic outside of Hy-Vee's 8394759374598237452 buck brand, I'll be better for it.

Look online for hummus recipes. It's not hard at all to make, especially if you have a good food processor. It's just canned chickpeas, tahini (a sesame paste) and garlic. You can add pesto or sundried tomatoes or whatever strikes your fancy.
