Tomorrow is day 20 of my 20 day workweek, and not a moment too soon. I will do my best to listen to good music on my iPod (docked in the iBugler I bought in Arifjan) and be irresponsible.

I approve of being irresponsible.

Is Arifjan as good as everyone says it is? My old unit sends people there all the time (and they are all nags in the office in Kuwait, jerks). I went through Kuwait to get to Afghanistan (we left through Kyrgyzstan, thank God!), but we went through the Ali al-Salim.

Anyway, glad almost-a-month of work doom is coming to and end and I hope you get plenty of time to relax!

Camp Arifjan is like being stationed on Club Med in the desert. Civilian clothes after work and on days off, two movie theatres, video stores (where the rentals of course are free), a big library, swimming pool, amazing gyms, Starbucks...you don't get deployed through Arifjan though, you get deployed TO Arifjan. And it's the cushiest post in the Middle East as far as I can tell.

Well, I got hosed. (Ok, I won't lie, I wouldn't trade my experiences in Afghanistan in for anything.)

I heard they get passes to go to the local mall, too. But this might be RUMINT caused by intense jealousy. LOL

How long were you at Arifjan for?

It's not passes to the local mall. MWR occasionally will have a bus trip into Kuwait City, where there is a mall. My JTF also had a couple of vans, which is how we used to get off post. I only did it once, a trip to Ali Al-Salem to go visit Danielle as she was heading back from Iraq.

I was there for three months. The other nine months I was in Bagram.

I, too, was at Bagram when I was in Afghanistan. :) Perhaps the Arifjan of Afghanistan, but I think it could be argued that Kandahar Airfield could also qualify (I heard a rumor that their PX has better stuff, but who knows). Although, I do think the NATO base in Kabul could arguably be better (that was one of the stops on the convoy of chaos). Their food was top notch, nothing on Bagram could have compared.
