I'd write more in this LJ if I could only get onto it from work. My problem is that like a lot of government offices, we're still running Windows XP, and at this point, nothing happens when I hit "post". I do get ideas, so maybe I should just write them down for writing later.

I just spent a very long week at Los Alamitos. I stayed at the Best Western, since there was a change of command ceremony over the weekend and I knew that housing at the billeting would be crowded. This was not as comfortable as I thought it would be. I had a room in a breezeway, so while I had a window, since it was in a covered area no sun got in. It was hard to wake up and I had creepy dreams. It wasn't a pleasant stay at all.

After a completely smooth change of command ceremony, the new first sergeant took all of us NCOs and pretty much informed us that we all sucked and so were going to do things "his way". And he's "old school".

I noticed that he had no deployment patch. He could have seen action in Korea or Bosnia, but from the way he was talking, I don't think so. He didn't tell us anything about himself.

The most bothersome thing he said was that now we would have NCO professional development (NCOPD) at 0600 on Saturday mornings, before PT. One of the guys there said that this was a problem for him, as he would have to get on the road by 0400 to make it. "I feel for you, but it's only one day a week," said 1st sergeant. This pissed me off, because a minute ago he'd been going on about "taking care of soldiers" and now he'd pretty much just told this guy that he didn't care if he fell asleep on the road and got into a car accident.

I didn't want to stay with the 11th anyway, so now I've decided. I've been trying to get in touch with the 78th so I can drill in San Diego again.

On Wednesday I was told I needed to work at some admin separation boards, so I'm back at Los Al again tonight. I'm staying at the billeting and much more comfortable. I'm still pretty mad about having so little notice and that I'm losing a day off the week I am going to spend in Arizona with Steve.

Your new first shirt sounds a lot like the ex-Special Forces idiot we got in Germany while I was on active duty. No higher brain function that anyone else could detect.

Also, WRT LJ at work, I had a similar problem when I was with the Evil Banking Neighbor. Solved it by writing text files at work and either e-mailing them home or putting them on a floppy.

Oh, I'm sure this dipshit is an admin MOS.

I'll email posts to myself. That works.

I think paid accounts can also email posts directly to LJ, and they will be posted.

ETA: Yep, here's the info on mobile posting (including posting by email) - http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq/187.html
