Be Forever, Yamato

This was a Yamato movie I kind of ignored because it didn't have Leader Desslok in in, and without Leader D., where's the love, I ask you?

It actually ends up having one of the best storylines, though. The Yamato has to go off and save Earth yet again...but Yuki (Nova) is wounded by invading alien forces and left behind. The crew don't know for sure if she's alive or dead, and in fact she's being held by an alien officer who's fallen for her Great Earth Beauty (tm). While her beloved and friends are relying on faith that she's okay, she's making some very hard choices back on Earth.

Watching as an adult, I'm struck by the blatant Japanese nationalism. If this was an American movie beating an American nationalistic drum in the same way, I'd refuse to watch it. I mean, here's the battleship Yamato in the far future with what ought to be at least a feeble attempt at an international crew, right? Nope. Every last name there is Japanese.

What's more, and I wouldn't know this if I didn't like watching Japanese cinema in general, is that Captain Okita (Avatar) has a colleague named Captain Hijikata....

Yes, really! Since I'd just been watching a movie about the Shinsengumi over the weekend, those names were fresh in my mind.

It's Christmas eve and Steve is sick. He's had a chest cold for several days now. We were going to go to church but Steve feels too awful. If he feels all right tomorrow we'll go to the 9:30 before leaving for OC. If not, I'll go to the 11:30 because that's the one my classmate is saying.

Sorry Steve is sick. I didn't get to the vigil mass this evening as I have a case of the flu. I'm up and around mostly from the bedroom to the bath. Still I have much for which to be thankful.

Merry Christmas!

Sorry that Steve got whumped by bad pizza. Do you have any gravol in the house - because that stuff will reduce the severity of the symptoms.

I've edited for clarity. Steve's sickness and the bad (meaning just not tasty) pizza are unrelated since Steve's had a chest cold now for several days.

No Desslock = Fail.

Good catch on the Shinsengumi name-drop.
